​Forensic Interviews

The Children’s Advocacy Center is a place for children to be interviewed after a report of child abuse has been made. Specially trained forensic interviewers interview children in a child friendly room that records video and audio of the child’s statement. Forensic interviews of children are used in further investigation and/or prosecution in a court of law.

Your Visit to the CAC

When you arrive at the CAC, a staff member will be there to greet you. There is a child and family friendly waiting room filled with books, toys, beverages, and snacks.

Before your child’s forensic interview, the family advocate will provide a tour of the forensic interview room to you and your child. Once the interviewer is ready, they will come meet you and the child in the waiting room before taking your child to the interview room. During your child’s interview the interviewer will take time to get to know your child, ask non suggestive questions, and gather detailed information about what your child has experienced or witnessed.

While your child is speaking with a forensic interviewer, a family advocate will take time to meet with you and address any existing needs your family has.

What to Expect During a Visit

1. Tour of Forensic Interview room for both child and caregiver
2. Child will go to Forensic Interview room with assigned forensic interviewer
3. Caregiver will meet with family advocate to go over next steps and needs of the child and family
4. Child-friendly waiting area with toys, drinks, and snacks
